AL-KO Octagon Compact axle shock absorber

The original black AL-KO Octagon Compact axle shock absorber 244087 is specially designed for AL-KO axles and is the highest load-rated version in the AL-KO Octagon shock absorber range.

Its damping characteristics are adapted to the high loads placed on the trailer and also take into account the inherent damping properties of AL-KO rubber suspension axles. The shock absorber therefore effectively reduces unwanted chassis oscillation and wheel bounce when travelling over uneven surfaces.

The highest load-rated version in the AL-KO Octagon range

The black AL-KO Octagon Compact 244087 is the highest weight category in the AL-KO Octagon range. It is designed for:

• single-axle trailers – up to 4,000 kg
• twin-axle trailers – up to 7,500 kg

For lighter trailers, AL-KO offers green, blue and red Octagon Plus shock absorbers with damping characteristics suited to lower weight categories.

AL-KO Octagon shock absorber weight categories

AL-KO identifies Octagon shock absorbers by trailer weight category using colour coding. Each version has a damping characteristic optimised for the corresponding load.

The values shown are the maximum gross trailer weights for each version according to AL-KO. A shock absorber from a higher weight category is not automatically more suitable for a lighter trailer. For correct operation, choose a version that matches the weight and construction of the axle.

Optimised damping characteristics

Unlike standard wide-range shock absorbers, AL-KO Octagon shock absorbers are designed for specific weight categories. This helps provide the right damping effect and avoids over-damping or insufficient damping of the trailer.

The shock absorber’s characteristics also take into account the inherent damping of the AL-KO axle suspension system. The axle and shock absorber therefore work together as a system optimised for the trailer’s handling.

Improved trailer stability

A correctly selected axle shock absorber reduces chassis oscillation and wheel bounce when travelling over uneven surfaces. It helps to provide:

• greater driving stability
• greater stability when braking
• better tyre contact with the road
• reduced trailer oscillation and bouncing
• more comfortable and stable trailer handling

Can also be used as a replacement shock absorber

Thanks to its high load capacity and standard mounting style, the AL-KO Octagon Compact 244087 may also be suitable in some cases as a replacement for other shock absorbers with matching dimensions and characteristics.

When using it as a replacement, compare the compressed and extended lengths, working stroke, mounting-hole diameter, mounting width, operating position and required damping characteristics.

A higher maximum load rating does not mean that the black shock absorber can automatically replace the green, blue or red AL-KO Octagon Plus versions. Each version is optimised for a different trailer weight category.

Supplied without mounting bolts

Unlike the green, blue and red AL-KO Octagon Plus shock absorbers, the black Octagon Compact 244087 is supplied without mounting bolts. When replacing it, check the condition and type of the existing fasteners or select suitable mounting hardware.

The product contains 1 shock absorber. A single axle requires 2 shock absorbers – one for each wheel.

AL-KO design

AL-KO axle shock absorbers use high-quality seals, overload protection, a chrome-plated sintered-metal valve, a finely machined piston rod, dust protection between the inner and outer tubes, and special shock absorber oil.
