The original Z-TRAILER complete twin wheel combines the Z-TRAILER 4Jx12 H2 ET45, 5×112 aluminium rim with a MAXXIS UE-168 145 R12C 86/84N, 8PR tyre. It is designed for selected Z-TRAILER car transporter trailers with twin wheels.

The wheel is supplied as a complete assembly with the tyre already fitted. The twin-wheel configuration uses two wheels side by side on each side of the axle. A twin-axle car transporter therefore uses a total of 8 tyres, providing high load capacity, a substantial operating reserve and, above all, exceptionally stable handling when the trailer is loaded.

Original Z-TRAILER + MAXXIS complete assembly

The 4Jx12 H2 ET45 aluminium rim corresponds to the original twin-wheel configuration used on selected Z-TRAILER car transporter trailers. The correct rim width, ET45 offset, 5×112 bolt pattern and 67.1 mm centre bore ensure the correct position of the wheel in relation to the axle and the second wheel in the twin-wheel assembly.

The rim is fitted with a MAXXIS UE-168 145 R12C 86/84N, 8PR tyre. Thanks to its narrow profile and high load capacity, this tyre size is particularly suitable for twin-wheel applications, where two tyres are positioned side by side on each side of the axle.

What does 86/84N mean?

The 86/84 load index indicates different tyre load capacities depending on the type of fitment. In single fitment, load index 86 applies, corresponding to 530 kg per tyre. In twin-wheel fitment, load index 84 applies, corresponding to 500 kg per tyre.

One pair of tyres in twin-wheel fitment therefore provides a nominal tyre load capacity of 1,000 kg. On a twin-axle car transporter with four pairs, or eight tyres in total, the combined nominal tyre load capacity is 4,000 kg. This figure represents only the sum of the nominal tyre load capacities and does not determine the permitted gross weight or payload of the trailer.

Speed rating N corresponds to a speed of up to 140 km/h.

Advantages of Z-TRAILER twin wheels

The main advantage of the twin-wheel configuration is not achieving the lowest possible loading deck – low-profile R10 wheels, for example, have an advantage in this respect. The Z-TRAILER twin-wheel system is primarily designed to provide high load capacity, a substantial operating reserve and exceptionally stable handling.

• Load distributed across 8 tyres – on a twin-axle trailer, the total weight is distributed across eight tyres instead of four.
• High overall load capacity – two tyres on each side of the axle allow high loads to be carried efficiently.
• Substantial tyre load reserve – with an even load distribution, each individual tyre carries a smaller proportion of the total load.
• Exceptionally stable handling – distributing the load across a greater number of tyres contributes to very stable behaviour of the loaded car transporter.
• Stable support on each side of the axle – the load is not carried by a single tyre but by a pair of tyres positioned side by side.
• Operating reserve in the event of tyre damage – if one tyre loses pressure, the second wheel on the same side of the axle remains as temporary support. The damaged tyre must nevertheless be dealt with immediately and the remaining tyre must not be overloaded.

Correct tyre pressure is essential with twin wheels

The specified maximum pressure for the MAXXIS UE-168 145 R12C 86/84N tyre is 4.33 bar / 65 PSI. However, this is not a universal recommended operating pressure for every trailer – always follow the values specified by the manufacturer of the particular trailer or vehicle and the information marked on the tyre.

With twin-wheel fitment, it is particularly important to maintain the same correct pressure in both tyres of each pair. Different pressures alter their operating dimensions and may cause uneven load distribution, uneven wear and overloading of one of the tyres.

We recommend checking tyre pressures regularly when the tyres are cold, especially before travelling with a heavily loaded car transporter.
