BRADLEY HU12 overrun brake damper

The AL-KO / BRADLEY HU12 damper is designed for heavy-duty overrun couplings used on braked trailers with a gross weight of up to 3500 kg. It is used in the V H35 overrun coupling, ETI 811885.

The double-acting gas-hydraulic damper controls the movement of the overrun mechanism during braking and subsequent brake release. This helps ensure a smooth application of the trailer brakes and controlled release of the braking system.

Use on Brian James Trailers

This damper is also used on Brian James Trailers. Brian James lists it in its spare parts range as S-CODA-1070-P-N – Coupling Damper, Bradley, HU12.

Before ordering, we recommend checking the identification of the existing overrun coupling, particularly its ETI number.

Dimensions

  • overall length: approx. 405 mm

How can you identify a worn overrun brake damper?

A worn or damaged damper may cause noticeable jolting when braking or pulling away. The overrun brake then no longer operates smoothly and the movement of the drawtube is not properly damped.

However, jolting is not always caused by the damper itself. Another possible cause is excessive play in the wheel brakes. Continued operation with incorrectly adjusted brakes can lead to premature wear or damage to the damper.

Recommendation when replacing the damper

When replacing the damper, we recommend also checking and correctly adjusting the trailer wheel brakes and then setting the free play of the central brake linkage. Correct adjustment of the complete braking system is important for proper operation and service life of the new damper.

We recommend that replacement of the damper and subsequent adjustment of the braking system are carried out by a qualified trailer workshop.
