AL-KO Universal Compact axle shock absorber

The original AL-KO Universal Compact axle shock absorber 282259 is a black universal shock absorber designed for trailers fitted with AL-KO axles with longitudinal arms.

It reduces unwanted chassis oscillation and wheel bounce when travelling over uneven surfaces, helping the trailer handle more stably and comfortably.

Universal version up to 1,500 / 3,000 kg

The AL-KO Universal Compact 282259 is designed for:

• single-axle trailers – up to 1,500 kg
• twin-axle / tandem trailers – up to 3,000 kg

Unlike the colour-coded AL-KO Octagon Plus shock absorbers, whose damping characteristics are optimised for individual trailer weight categories, the Universal Compact is a universal version for a wide load range of up to 1,500 kg per axle.

Universal Compact or Octagon?

Alongside the Universal Compact shock absorber, AL-KO also offers Octagon shock absorbers with damping characteristics tailored to specific weight categories.

The Universal Compact and the individual Octagon versions are not selected solely by their maximum load capacity. The axle type, mounting method and damping characteristics suitable for the specific trailer must also be taken into account.

Improved trailer stability

Correctly installed axle shock absorbers limit the movement of the suspended axle after travelling over uneven surfaces and help keep the wheels in better contact with the road. They help provide:

• greater driving stability
• greater stability when braking
• better tyre contact with the road
• reduced trailer oscillation and bouncing
• more comfortable trailer handling while driving

Articulated mounting eyes

The Universal Compact shock absorber uses articulated mounting eyes with rubber bushes. Their design allows installation with up to 5° of angular movement, without unwanted tension and with low bush wear.

This design also makes it easier to install the shock absorber on the axle and compensates for minor differences in the position of the mounting points.

For AL-KO axles with longitudinal arms

The AL-KO Universal Compact 282259 is primarily intended for AL-KO axles with longitudinal arms. Before ordering, check the axle type, the design of the mounting points and the part number of the original shock absorber.

For axles with oblique arms or a different design, the Universal Compact 282259 may not be a suitable replacement based on weight category alone.

Mounting hardware included

On the AL-KO Universal Compact shock absorber, the mounting bolts are integrated into the mounting eyes. The matching nuts are also included.
